National cultural policy

14 December 2009

Panelists discuss the need for and potential content of a national cultural policy for Australia.

Federal Minister for the Arts Peter Garrett wants a national cultural policy and he's inviting you to tell him what you think should be in it by contributing to his Web Forum.

To discuss this, Artworks hosts Lyndon Terracini, the new artistic director of Opera Australia; Ben Eltham, who writes for the magazine New Matilda, has a cultural policy blog and is a former producer and director of experimental and fringe arts festivals. Hilary Glow is a lecturer and researcher in arts and cultural policy at Deakin University. She's the author of Power Plays: Australian Theatre and the Public Agenda, and co-author of a study into Indigenous performing arts and policy in Australia.

The Minister's National Cultural Policy Consultation web Forum closes 1 February 2010
